PACE Cultural Centre is a non-profit organization dedicated to emerging art and design. Our goal is to bridge students with their established counterparts through experimental programming that cultivates public dialogue. This allows for a dynamic art space that questions and re-evaluates the cultural and artistic expectations of visual language. My position at XPACE includes overseeing all finances, signing cheques and contracts, approving large purchases, approving changes to bylaws, hiring the Gallery Director, and attending ad-hoc committees including programming, grants, and hiring.

The Academic Council is responsible for the establishment and regulation of academic standards and curricular policies and procedures at OCAD. In particular, the Academic Council and its many committees are in charge of providing direction to the Board of Governors regarding all matters pertaining to OCAD’s academic resources, academic programming, strategic planning, student affairs, and any other such matters relating to academic issues. I currently sit on several committees including the AC Executive Committee, Academic Policy and Planning, Ombudsperson Working Group, Academic Standards, and Academic Appeals.

The Board of Governors is responsible for governing and managing the affairs of the university and has the necessary powers to do so,” going on to make clear that the Board has final authority over all academic and non-academic matters affecting the institution. The Board consists of members from the external community, including 6 individuals appointed by the Ontario government, 2 by the OCADU Alumni Association, and 7 by the Board itself. There are also 10 internal Board members drawn from the OCADU community, elected by faculty, staff, management and student representatives as well as the President who is an ex-officio voting member.In its meetings the Board establishes policy and institutional priorities for the university. It makes major operating decisions and receives reports from the President; Vice-President, Academic; Vice-President, Administration; Vice-President of Research & Graduate Studies; the Chair of the Academic Council; Chairs of standing and ad hoc committees; and representatives of academic and administrative areas at the university, as needed. I currently participate on several committees including Finance, Audit Sub-Committee of Finance, Physical Resources and Capital Assets Sub-Committee of Finance. Ad hoc committees and task forces are appointed from time to time as required.

Combining activism and administrative skills my position focuses primarily on liaising with University Administration, and the students at OCAD University.This includes attending regular meeting of the Board Of Governors, and Academic Senate, hosting Town Hall Open forums, event planning, workshops, and staying up-to-date with academic and administrative changes at OCAD University.I have a deep understanding of administrative procedures, fee structures, membership structures, accountable business practice, transparent accounting, working with a budget, working with grants, and producing monthly reports to the Board of Directors. I have also overseen the design and production of several community publications including the annual student guide and handbook, student newspaper Cadmium, and other smaller promotional materials such as information brochures about some of our key services and new initiatives. Over the past three years I have initiated a number of new programs including FoodShare, the Ombuds Office, Free Legal Service for Students, Campus Cupboard Student Food Store, the Starving Student Food Bank, and Anti-Calendar Student Evaluation. I have been instrumental in creating new job opportunities on campus, re-writing current OCAD and OCADSU Bylaws, rebranding the OCADSU, as well as long-term planning and advocating for students and studios at OCAD.
