As part of my Art Education major from Ohio Northern University, I am Student Teaching at Upper Scioto Valley School, where I teach art classes for children grades K-8. In this role, I have gained experience in classroom management, lesson planning, accommodating students needs, and helping students to understand the lessons by breaking down information into its core concepts. Due to the experience gained from this role, I now feel confident in my teaching skills as I graduate and enter the education system as a newly licensed Art Teacher. I am excited to continue my teaching career and build off of the lessons I've learned in this job.

In this role, I used my trained photography skills to capture newsworthy images of school events. My duties included photography, image editing, newspaper formatting, and writing news stories to accompany my photos. Due to my time spent in this role, I now have a solid skillset in photography and editing, and I have gained valuable experience in the fields of investigative journalism and intrapersonal collaboration. In this job, I learned that when a community of talented and driven individuals come together with one unifying goal, such as the newspaper, they can create something truly beautiful together.

In this role, I worked one-on-one with international students at Ohio Northern University, helping them to acclimate as smoothly as possible to their life at ONU. I helped set up bank accounts, designed transportation schedules, helped put in place translation and English-as-a-second-language assistance, and much more. Due to my time spent in this role, I learned how to interact with and teach students who have little or no knowledge of the English language, and I was able to help foster a positive environment for international students to learn in.
