About Amanda Devleeschower
I am a Graduate Research Assistant at Old Dominion University, where I conduct fish parasitology research and teach biology and earth science labs. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the same university and I am currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Biology, expected to graduate in 2024. My core competencies include fish health, science communication, and lab work. In my research role, I collect, identify, and sequence fish parasites using electrofishing, necropsy, and molecular techniques. I also develop and manage databases, train and supervise volunteers, and assist in the design and implementation of experiments. In my teaching role, I facilitate lab sessions, grade assignments, and provide feedback to students. Additionally, I completed a Directorate Fellowship at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, where I assessed and communicated climate adaptation strategies for various species and habitats. I am passionate about applying my skills and knowledge to address environmental challenges and contribute to the conservation of biodiversity. I value collaboration, innovation, and diversity, and I seek to join a team that shares these values and offers opportunities for learning and growth.
