As a science technician at Oasis Academy Wintringham I undertake various duties required in the dayto day function of the science department such as preparing experiments for whole classes or teacherdemonstrations, keeping equipment and glassware clean and in working order and making sure anyworksheets are provided. I also undertake chemical and equipment stock checks and complete purchaserequests for any items that need restocking or replacing. I am also responsible for keeping myself informed ofany updates and new information regarding health and safety and child safeguarding.

While working at Exova I have learnt chemical processes relevant to nutritional testing, laboratory health and safety protocol and good lab practice. I have learnt how to test for various items in food including fats, sugars, sodium, salt and dietary fibre using different chemical processes and methods. I have also learnt how to use the in house sample management database to track the progress of samples, due dates and values gathered from other testing processes. I have communicated with customers through e-mail and phone conversation to confirm testing requirements, inform them of issues and problems with the provided sample and gather extra information regarding the sample when needed.

During the 8 weeks at meridian I built up my administration skills including taking and transferring calls, contacting referees, filing, helping candidates fill in application forms, entering details onto the in house database, directing and sending mail, contacting candidates for extra information. I have also gained a knowledge of good working practice in an office and when dealing with confidentiality.

During my time at ASDA I developed my team-working skills and experienced working in a busy, fast paced environment. I also developed my selling and organisational skills further. While I was at ASDA I also dealt directly with customers and was able to develop customer service skills that can be applied to any job sector.
