I have trained utilizing principles of operant conditioning, and the fundamentals of effective environmental enrichment. I have a good working knowledge of record keeping including Tracks entries, medications, section updates. I am also comfortable giving scheduled guest presentations at exhibits plus informal talks as needed. I have experience applying for conservation funding and professional development grants. I received professional development funding in fall 2019 to learn more about banding wild birds for tracking and research purposes. I have served on the zoo's sustainability committee, the Green Team, helping to keep Zoo Atlanta a sustainable and eco-friendly place.

As an intern in the bird department, my responsibilities included assisting the keepers with everyday animal husbandry and habitat maintenance for all of the birds in Zoo Atlanta. This includes preparing diets, cleaning enclosures, perching, providing enrichment items, and more. I even got opportunities to help lead keeper talks about some of the birds, observe training sessions, and partake in some social media outreach.

As an intern in the Mammal Department, I worked primarily with small carnivores, giant otters, tigers, lions, sun bears, giant pandas and red pandas. My responsibilities included assisting the keepers with everyday animal husbandry and habitat maintenance for all of these species. This includes preparing diets, cleaning enclosures and habitats, perching, maintaining water quality, providing enrichment items, and more. I even got opportunities to observe several training sessions, observe medical procedures, and help write a proposal recommending Lion Guardians for a Quarters for Conservation campaign at Zoo Atlanta.

My primary responsibility was to act as the liaison for Marine Conservation Institute (MCI) for the National Monument Defense campaign going on during the open review comment period in Summer 2017. I helped coordinate actions with other organizations, submitting supporting documents for the review, making phone calls, and composing many emails. I also helped review and revise reports and press releases created by MCI. I took notes at meetings and senate hearings. For this internship I attended the 2017 Capitol Hill Oceans Week and a communications workshop.

I started as a summer research student completing the first collaboration project Dr. Peter Hodum of the Biology Department and Dr. Megan Gessel of the Chemistry Department. This project eventually became my undergraduate senior thesis. I wrote and submitted a research grant proposal to a competitive student grant program and was funded by the Mellam Scholar Research Award. I was also awarded Collins Library Research Practices Award for my thorough approach to ensure a comprehensive research of literature. I developed own methodology for extraction and data collection using soxhlet extraction and GC-MS analysis to quantify concentrations for Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDEs) within seabird feathers.I created and presented poster of my work at the Undergraduate Fall Research Symposium on the UPS campus and 2017 Pacific Seabird Conference in Tacoma, WA. I also gave an oral presentation at the Phi Sigma Research Symposium on UPS Campus.
