About Amanda Costello

I am an effective, collaborative, and strengths-based leader with expertise in implementing and evaluating early childhood and trauma-informed evidence-based programs. My training as a Ph.D. clinical psychologist has provided me the foundation of relationship building, communication, and critical thinking skills that have resulted in strong partnerships with stakeholders from multiple disciplines and diverse lived experiences. My work is centered in a science-driven and culturally-humble approach that values expertise from all stakeholders involved in a program or project, including family, provider, and community voice.

Clinical Director, Attachment And Biobehavioral Catch-Up
University Of Delaware Department Of Psychological & Brain Sciences Jan 2020 - Aug 2022
    Newark, Delaware, United States
I was hired as the second full-time employee at ABC at the University of Delaware in 2015. In my roles at ABC I was integral to nurturing the growth of a team and program that quickly grew and evolved. I directed ABC's fidelity coding and supervision arm until 2020, growing and optimizing a system which currently supports more than 10,000 fidelity supervision meetings annually. I served as a lead trainer and supervisor, conducting over 40 trainings and supervising over 100 ABC clinicians across 28 states and 8 international countries. I also trained and provided consultation for a network of ABC supervisors, growing this team from around 5 individuals in 2015 to over 50 individuals in 2022. Since 2015 I have been actively involved in disseminating home visiting/early childhood research by presenting findings on a local and national level and representing ABC in meetings with national model leaders. As ABC Clinical Director from 2020-2022, I managed a dynamic team of supervisors, promoting a collaborative and communicative workplace culture. I worked with ABC senior leadership to develop, track and refine strategic initiatives based on relevant research, policy, and recommendations from stakeholders. I also provided consultation for community dissemination partners across the United States, engaging in early-stage planning around training organization, program evaluation development, funder reporting, and eventual scaling and sustainability. This required a deep understanding of the region where ABC was being disseminated, including culture, workforce, policy, and funding as well as expertise in national policies, trends, and evidence-base. Underlying all of my work has been a commitment to equity and advancing racial justice. I use science to support my work, while also valuing and genuinely incorporating family, provider, and community voice. As a leader, I promote these same principles in relationships with team members.
