I was always good at maths and enjoyed economics and commerce at school. My Dad encouraged me to study accounting, but it didn’t initially appeal. After 10 years in various back-office financial services roles I stepped in the world of financial planning. Financial planning has given me the opportunity to share my skills and knowledge while helping others. It was in 2022 that I took the step towards becoming an adviser, although I had been qualified and professionally ready for several years.It is cliched to say I enjoy helping people, but I do. Hearing relief, elation, and joy in a person’s voice because of something I helped them achieve is why I do what I do. You could say I am passionate about helping other achieve their goals.Lately, I have been helping clients understand what their retirement will look like, what they can afford to spend, the holidays they can afford to have. Retirement isn’t always easy, the switch from ‘savings mode’ to ‘spending mode’ can be a difficult adjustment. I work alongside clients, so they understand what spending aligns with their values and reinforcing what they have spent a lifetime saving for.As an Aged Care specialist I work with families to navigate the Centrelink minefield when a loved one enters care or when applying for an age pension. Explaining how aged care is affordable is just as important as being empathetic to the emotions they are experiencing.I look forward to working with more people and families, guiding them in wealth accumulation, spending in retirement or entering care.
