Amanda is a meteorologist for WFLA News Channel 8 in Tampa, FL. She also serves as the NASA Correspondent for her parent company Nexstar Media Group reporting on launches and major celestial events. Her deep passion for science began long before her career. She did college level research at USF in high school that took her to multiple international science fairs. From there, she attended the University of Florida to obtain a bachelors in mechanical engineering and then Mississippi State University for her masters in geosciences. After almost a decade of experience in weather, she has forecast everything from major hurricanes & tornadoes to ice storms with countless summertime thunderstorms thrown in between. She spent five years in Gainesville forecasting weather. During her time at UF, she interned with Spirit AeroSystems designing floor modules for the new Boeing 737 MAX program. After UF, she moved to Myrtle Beach before moving back to Florida. She is currently in Tampa forecasting the weather for her home state.She loves to dive deep into the complications of forecasting but also knows how to keep the message simple and straightforward. She is a great communicator and loves completing projects.For fun, Amanda loves to be outside. She enjoys fishing, scuba diving, being on the boat, watching rocket launches, and spending time with family.
