In this role, I provide the academic vision and strategic leadership for the CTL, advancing the culture of teaching on Columbia’s campuses. I work closely with the Senior Vice Provost, Columbia’s schools and colleges, and faculty leaders to determine priorities for the CTL and develop new initiatives and programs.

As the Director of Faculty Programs and Services (FPS), I lead and direct the FPS team in serving the needs of faculty, departments, and schools. I ensure all programs and services are based on current learning research and best practices in educational development. On a daily basis, I connect with others to extend the reach of the Center through collaborations with faculty, centers, and institutes; mentor, manage, and recruit Associate Directors, Assistant Directors, and Learning Designers; and contribute to internal strategic development and planning for both FPS and the Center.

As the Associate Director of Faculty Teaching Initiatives and Programs at the Columbia University Provost's Office Center for Teaching and Learning, I develop and facilitate teaching and professional development programs for faculty, postdoctoral, adjunct, and other instructors at Columbia. Through the design and implementation of pedagogical programs, consultations, and resources, I encourage engaged, reflective teaching and learning. I specialize in Feminist pedagogy, collaborative learning, and active learning. In addition to being a certified Team-Based Learning Collaborative expert consultant-trainer, I am also trained in Bystander Intervention to prevent sexual assault on college campuses as well as Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) Gatekeeper training to prevent student self-harm. I am committed to improving teaching and learning in our local, national, and international communities

As the Assistant Director of Faculty Development, I develop and facilitate workshops to introduce new pedagogies, increase student engagement, meet learning outcomes, and support the TCU teacher-scholar. I also plan a keynote event series, which brings outside scholars to campus for larger development events. I lead the reorganization and content development for the Koehler Center website, edit and manage Insights (a faculty development publication), and develop materials and training for campus-wide teaching evaluation. I facilitate the university’s new faculty orientation, teach the graduate student pedagogy certification course, and meet one-on-one with faculty. I also conduct classroom observations and facilitate Teaching Analysis Polls (student focus group discussions) to support and ensure teaching excellence.

As the CTE Graduate Faculty Development Fellow, I am developing an online teaching as professional development certification course for TCU Graduate Assistants, Graduate Instructors, and PhD Candidates who work with undergraduate students at TCU. The course supports students in fostering healthy relationships with advisers, provides sexual harassment information, and promotes a healthy work/life balance for TCU graduate students. The curriculum, which focuses on teaching as a reflective practice, introduces graduate students to outcomes-based teaching and supports them as they develop syllabi, lesson plans, sample assignments, and rubrics. The culminating project is an academic portfolio, which students can continue to develop throughout their professional, academic careers.

As the 2011-2012 Graduate Online Teaching Fellow I am piloting Introduction to Literature as TCU’s first online course in the undergraduate core curriculum. In order to pilot and assess this course, I am certified in online instruction, instructional design, and Learning Outcomes Management assessment.

As a Graduate Instructor at TCU, I taugh Introductory and Intermediate Composition, Introduction to Literature, Major American Writers, Women in Literature and Culture, and Studies in Early American Literature.
