About Amanda Kohl

As a recent graduate in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management with a concentration in Program Management, I have a strong focus on youth program planning. I have had numerous opportunities to work with children in the recreation sector through being a camp counselor to interning at an RV Campground. I am involved in the community through an organization called, Spirit League. Spirit League is a basketball program for teens and young adults with disabilities. This involvement shined a light on an aspect of parks and recreation that I wouldn't have noticed prior. Many children with disabilities don't have the most opportunities to interact with others similar to them outside of school hours. Spirit League has grown since my initial involvement, when I started in 2016 it was running through a church, now it is a regular program through the Towns of Wake Forest and Apex. In a recent position as a Parent Ally, I work with the parents of the students at NC State by utilizing a helpline for the parents to get into contact with someone that will work with them on their issues or concerns. I also coordinated an event within Parent's Weekend, it was an event for siblings of NC State students so that the sibling bond can grow stronger even when one of them is at college. This event showed me how to connect resources all over NC State's campus into one event. As a large university, it can be difficult to utilize all aspects of campus life, but I made sure that it could be possible. My Clifton Strengths are Woo, Empathy, Communication, Positivity, and Arranger.
