As a child life specialist, our job is to decrease the stress and anxiety children, siblings, and families experience in the healthcare setting. Each patient and family is different and we strive to meet them where they are and provide interventions that help them cope effectively. We help children and families navigate their healthcare journey through play, preparation, education, and therapeutic activities. We provide psychosocial support and encourage the opportunity for normal growth and development. We support patient and family centered care by providing information and support to the entire family. Child life specialists also provide numerous educational in-services and sessions for families, medical staff members, and the community on child development and how to help support children and teens during times of stress.
