Head grower managing the greenhouse operation as well as contributing to the success of field grown material used for bare root sales and in-house stock for propagation. I primarily supervise the plant health department and make decisions regarding spray programs, beneficial insect use and IPM strategies, growing procedures and planning, trialing new material (new plant introductions, different soilless mixes, new chemistry and biological products for pest control, diseases suppression, plant growth, etc), budget decisions, labor projections, irrigation, and all other aspects of successfully growing wholesale greenhouse plugs for distribution across North America, while remaining profitable and efficient.

Assisting the head grower with maintaining 3 acres of greenhouses growing perennial plugs for wholesale distribution across North America. My responsibilities include scouting for insects and disease, spraying, watering, soil testing, mixing fertilizer, ordering and applying beneficial insects, planting banker plant systems, pinching, and using an ARGUS computer system to monitor and control the greenhouse environment. I am also the watering supervisor and oversee the watering needs for the entire greenhouse, making the schedule and assigning areas to all of the waterers, and ensuring that all employees who water are trained and performing well.

Involved in all aspects of the retail nursery including watering plants, mixing fertilizer, pruning, irrigation installation, small construction projects and plantings. My primary responsibility was assisting customers with picking out plant material, setting up pickups and deliveries, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
