Profile bio

About Amanda Sullivan

I am an elementary school teacher for K-1 students in a Title 1 school. Many of my students come from challenging backgrounds. I have over 20 years of experience in various teaching roles. However, it is watching my 20+ 5-year old’s go from a first day of crying and frustration to graduates who, very often, achieve higher than grade level in math and ELA. I hold my students to high standards of academic performance as well as personal and corporate classroom behavior. It is my mission to help my very young students leave my classroom with the skills and personal traits to be successful in the next grade and beyond. Roles & goals I chose and why:First, I prepared myself academically by making development of children with special needs a priority. I did the same to prepare for gifted and talented students. I hold licensure for both “Exceptional Children K-12” and the “Academically Gifted”. That preparation has allowed me, in a very diverse learning environment, to spearhead delivery of differentiated instruction as well as individualized education plans (IEPs).Secondly, I have chosen intense involvement in school system curriculum development and the official mentoring of beginning teachers (BT’s), to be among my top priorities. The curriculum is our educational system’s core and BT’s need patient, competent guidance to be successful. The results of my efforts have been team-developed curricula disseminated that meets the needs of children at all levels of learning and successful and many resilient BT’s that go on to be successful licensed educators. I believe I have been successful in these roles I set for myself based on performance as evidenced by:• Consistent “distinguished” evaluation metrics• Appointed “Lead Mentor” for BT’s• Exceeding mClass & Lexile scores-EOG levels E-U for K-1• Being selected “Teacher of the Year” for my school I consider my major strengths to be:• Classroom Management• Differentiated Instruction• Student Assessment• Cooperative Learning• Curriculum DevelopmentWhen I am not teaching, I enjoy trips to the beach with my husband, our long walks together and looking for shark teeth. Our children are grown and have their PhD’s and we love living peacefully by the lake. I am greatly blessed. I am always looking for a new challenge. If you feel I might meet your needs as a teacher, lead teacher, or AP, feel free to message me or you may reach me at mrssullysullivan@gmail.com. I have much more to offer and wish to always challenge myself and contribute to the success of the students and teachers I love so much.
