Amanda is an experienced health economist, who has worked in academia, government and as a consultant for industry. Amanda is interested in the broad application of economic theories and techniques including the translation of evidence into policy development to support efficient and equitable resource allocation and service provision. Amanda also has long-standing expertise in cost-effectiveness analysis. Since commencing at Menzies in 2013, Amanda has established a research program focused on health services and systems, including innovative funding mechanisms and service provision within Tasmania (with Tasmania Medicare Local/Primary Health Tasmania, Department of Health and Tasmanian Health Service). She has specific interests in chronic illness and disorders, particularly mental health disorders. In 2019 Amanda established the Menzies Mental Health and Wellbeing Research Group which is supporting university and sector wide mental health research in Tasmania. For example, in 2020-21, Amanda led the Review of the Tasmanian Suicide Register for the Tasmanian Departments of Health and Justice, and contributed to the Tasmanian veteran needs assessment and wellbeing support service feasibility report. The former has informed practice and our understanding of this system, and the latter, the Federal Government’s expansion of the Veteran Wellbeing Centre network into Tasmania. Amanda is the health economics lead for the ALIVE National Centre for Mental Health Research Translation.
