As an Air Force reservist, I support the public affairs office at HQ NORAD & USNORTHCOM, the combatant command dedicated to defending America's homeland.PRIMARY DUTIES: Supports media operations cell by researching, writing, reviewing, and disseminating media products, coordinating media responses across NORTHCOM, and establishing guidance for NORTHCOM-wide communication events. Oversees social media accounts for NORTHCOM and all supported units. Serves as media chief during prolonged absences of the full-time chief. DISASTER & CRISIS RESPONSE: Conducts communications in support of disaster response and Defense Support to Civil Authorities. During major events, coordinates national communication efforts with interagency and DOD partners.

As a public affairs planner and media analyst for the Joint Special Operations Command, I focused on the following three portfolios:COMMUNICATIONS STRATEGY & PLANNING: Developed and executed communication campaigns by conducting background research and analysis; crafting themes, messages, and talking points; determining appropriate channels and audiences; and synchronizing communication efforts across the enterprise. Integrated fact-based, public information with other information-related capabilities to achieve desired effects in the information environment.STRATEGIC ENGAGEMENTS: Led development of the strategic engagement plan for a significant organizational restructuring within U.S. Special Operations Command, coordinating and preparing the command to engage with key stakeholders within the Command, the Department of Defense, Congress, and other Washington, D.C.-based entities. Created cross-functional process for optimizing the command’s strategic engagements, ensuring stakeholders understood and advocated for necessary resources, authorities, and relationships.MEDIA OPERATIONS: Managed relationships with local and national media representatives to shape the organization’s narrative for internal, domestic, and international audiences. Wrote, reviewed, and disseminated media products and guidance. Conducted media analysis to determine communication effectiveness using a variety of available tools.

ADVICE & COUNSEL: Provided public affairs advice and counsel to AFSOC senior leaders, including researching, planning, and developing complex public affairs efforts in support of the commander’s priorities. Prepared leaders for public engagements, including congressional testimony, media engagements, and speaking forums.LEADERSHIP: Oversaw daily operations of eight personnel with duties across the public affairs enterprise, including media operations, strategy and plans, community outreach, social media management, and command information. Coordinated the public affairs efforts of AFSOC's six geographically-separated units by providing guidance, resource support, and mentorship.

AFOSI is a US federal law enforcement agency that proactively identifies, investigates, and neutralizes serious criminal, terrorist, and espionage threats to Department of Defense and US Air Force personnel and resources. AFOSI special agents are responsible for conducting independent criminal investigations, producing detailed and concise investigative reports, and maintaining an extensive network of contacts in order to enable their operations.As the lead special agent for AFOSI in France, I conducted the following duties:LIAISON: Maximized AFOSI’s strategic engagement and liaison in France by fostering minister- and director-level relationships to further mission and capabilities in France and facilitating interagency cooperation between U.S. law enforcement and Defense representatives. Led Subject Matter Expert Exchanges with several French military and LE services across a wide range of topics. Operated mid-tier liaison network with French and third country military and LE officers. Organized and executed multiple liaison events per year, hosting 400+ guests and managing budgets over $10K.COUNTERINTELLIGENCE & FORCE PROTECTION: Executed the sole U.S. military law enforcement, counterintelligence, and force protection mission in France. Communicated and negotiated U.S. force protection requirements with French officials. Protected DoD exercises and events through direct support to units and networking with local officials and communities. In conjunction with other U.S. government agencies, collected and disseminated intelligence information to identify threats to U.S. interests in Europe.DEPLOYMENT: Established a new office location and mission in Niamey, Niger, advising the deployed Air Force commander on CI and terrorist threats to inform his decision-making and policies. Developed relationships with Nigerien, French, and US diplomatic, LE, and military officials. Supervised and trained new AFOSI special agents to conduct the deployed mission.

Managed criminal and counterintelligence operations for 13 geographically separated units aligned with Air Force Mobility Command and the Air Force District of Washington. Served as the Personal Security Advisor to the AMC Commander, providing accurate and timely intelligence information to assist his decision-making. Planned two region-wide conferences per year, including scheduling guest speakers, securing lodging, catering, and event space, and developing themes and training topics.

Executed counterintelligence and criminal programs for four military installations, including investigations, collections, and operations. Appointed personal counterintelligence advisor to the commander of 14th Air Force / Joint Forces Component Command Space as a junior officer due to advanced understanding of the threat and security environment, high level of professionalism, and ability to communicate with superiors confidently and effectively.DEPLOYMENT: Engaged with the local community and leaders to identify and neutralize threats to U.S. and Coalition forces in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Developed insider threat and female engagement programs, creating relationships with personnel employed on base and the local female community for the first time in the unit’s history.
