Amanda Taylor Email and Phone Number
I am a registered Dance Movement Psychotherapist (ADMP UK). My therapeutic approach is person centred and trauma informed, drawing from psychodynamic, gestalt and developmental theories of psychotherapy. I support and encourage creativity and expression through the body, incorporating somatic techniques to safely explore clients' lived experiences and challenges. Working with embodiment and the mind/body connection allows a holistic approach to healing and I often incorporate other artistic mediums such as art, music and play into the therapy space to facilitate deeper expression and reflection.I have experience running groups and individual therapy with a variety of different client populations and settings. These include schools, mental health charities and in-patient psychiatric hospitals. I work with children and adults across a range of emotional and mental health challenges including anxiety, depression, grief, body image, addiction, self harming behaviours, neuro diversity, complex PTSD, trauma, bipolar disorder, psychosis, schizophrenia, dissociative disorders and medically unexplained symptoms (MUS).I have a research specialism and professional interest in maternal mental health having completed my MA thesis on 'Embodied Grief, How DMP Can Support Women Through the Silence of Pregnancy Loss, an Autoethnographic Study'. I create spaces for women to safely explore their experience of maternal identity, including fertility challenges, baby loss, birthing experiences and shifting identity as they move through various transitions in life . Alongside my therapeutic work I also run community psychoeducational groups, supporting individuals to build somatic resources to better understand and support their mental health. I run parenting courses aimed at building a strong emotional connection through both the infant/primary and teenage years. Attachment theory underpins and informs my clinical and psychotherapeutic work with an emphasis on both verbal and non-verbal communication, emotional regulation and attunement within the parent child relationship.Having worked for many years as a dance artist and producer I also offer creative dance workshops for people of all ages and abilities in professional, educational and community settings.
