I am currently training as a Serology/DNA Operations Technician at the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences Forensic Genetics Laboratory. I received my Master of Science in Forensic Science from Sam Houston State University with a focus on forensic DNA. Prior to SHSU, I obtained two Bachelor of Science Degrees from Trine University: one in Forensic Science with a minor in Chemistry and another in Biology. During my master's program I have worked primarily with human skeletal remains from the STAFS Facility by independently performing DNA extractions, quantification, normalization, amplification, capillary electrophoresis, and interpretation of DNA profiles. Through lab work I have processed additional biological sample types including body fluids, cigarettes, chewing gum, and swabs. I have experience working on teams to implement new automated instrumentation and a mock LIMS into our laboratory, as well as participating in a STRmix validation.Over 10 weeks, I performed a proof-of-concept study in 2 parts involving human skeletal remains in a forensic genetics section of a crime laboratory.
