We didn’t have a lot when I was growing up, but what my parents lacked in financial resources, they more than made up for in life lessons. From a young age, I heard things like “all work is honorable work,” “ambition without compassion is destructive,” and that the only way my parents would ever be disappointed in me is if I grew up to be unkind.I’m fiercely proud of how I was raised and the career I’ve had. I haven’t always played my cards right, because I haven’t always had the luxury to make calculated career moves. I would say my resume speaks for itself, but it doesn’t—no title I’ve held accurately portrays just how hard I worked to get a meaningful seat at the same table I spent a decade setting and cleaning up, my aptitude for growth, the curiosity with which I approach everyone I meet, or the fearless nature with which I live my life. I’m not afraid to go first or break uncomfortable silence, but I never do so without the utmost care and compassion.I exist and interact with others the only way I know how—authentically.
