I caught the commodities trading bug very early. While my buddies were chilling during their school holidays, I preferred to get my hands dirty in coal. This continued even during semester breaks in college. My family had a coal trading company in India. We used to trade domestically, and it was the work ethic and business acumen of my father that inspired me and made me curious about coal trading. After college, I went off to the mining areas of Meghalaya and Assam in India. The two years that I spent there were a crash course in the nitty-gritty of mining. And by 2001 I had begun making small investments into coal mines in Meghalaya against coal offtake agreements. Fast forward to 2010, and I was independently trading about 50,000 metric tons of coal in India.Then it was time to broaden my horizons. I moved to Dubai, UAE, and got my first taste of global trading. I began working for Constantia and, over the next few years, traded roughly 10 million tons of coal from South Africa to the Middle East, East and West Africa, India, Vietnam, China and other countries. From 2016 to early 2023, I was a Marketing Director at IMI. I sourced and sold millions of tons of South African coal to global markets. It was an incredible opportunity to learn about trading other bulk commodities like Gypsum, Clinker, Iron Ore, Fly Ash and more during my time at IMI.The exposure and experience that I gained while trading on the global stage gave me the confidence to embark on my own. BitCoal is my exciting new venture and I can’t wait to get it off the ground. We will begin by sourcing and supplying Coal from South Africa and Mozambique. Very soon we will add Iron Ore, Limestone, Graphite and other raw materials to our product portfolio.When I am not working, I am still getting my hands dirty…in the kitchen, cooking up new recipes for family and friends. I also love traveling and movies. But my passion is trading – to me it’s not work, it’s an adrenaline rush that keeps me going.
