About Amar P.

I've been focused on the intersections of the Energy Transition, Mobility Revolution, and Information Technology Tsunami. Partly because these areas excite me, partly because these areas have been in upheaval for much of my career, I've found opportunities to innovate therein. I've led a series of efforts to build new ventures that have overlapped these industries' evolutions (within an established tech company, nascent startups, PE/VC, family business, academia), which have given me a unique vantage point. Building something new in these industries' complex intersection points is where you'll find me. Speaker Bio:Amar is part of the founding team of Mobility Impact Partners (MIP): a collaborative strategic venture capital firm focused on investing in high-growth companies transforming the ecosystem of ground transportation; modeled after Energy Impact Partners (EIP)Most recently he led Special Opportunities at EIP, a venture capital firm that invests in companies optimizing energy consumption and improving sustainable energy generation. Amar's primary mandate was to find the white space therein, create solutions and launch ventures. MIP is one of those ventures. Previously, Amar was a Global Strategy Leader for IBM’s Energy & Utilities vertical. As the leader of strategic incubation, he was responsible to incubate IBM's new offerings to Energy & Utility companies and lead their go-to-market strategy. He focused on expanding IoT, AI, & Blockchain solutions into emerging areas like DER, renewables integration, & energy trading. He has broad and deep experience developing and selling energy and industrial solutions. Amar is an energy technology entrepreneur having built, raised financing, and sold companies focused on EV-aaS, EV battery afterlife, project finance digitization, UC/ED optimization for distributed energy storage, O&M analytics for wind turbines, nanotech for Li+ anodes, cellulosic biofuels, direct air CCS, C&I solar, and even faux fireplaces. Amar started his career as a product manager in the automotive industry. After business school he worked in High Yield, investing in auto and industrial companies. Amar holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley and an MBA from Columbia Business School. In addition, he is an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University, teaching at the School of International and Public Affairs on topics related to his expertise.

Spring 2022: "Super-Charging Investment in E-Mobility Infrastructure": Charging infrastructure can be difficult to finance due to inherent risks in use, volume, price, and cost: i.e. utilization is uncertain and revenue streams are mostly uncontracted, amongst other reasons. In addition, regulatory barriers are common, preventing the organic growth of this new sector. EBRD believes that subsidies may be necessary to attract private finance. What financing models are used for comparably risky infrastructure? How should the public sector engage in the provision of charging infrastructure? What are the optimal subsidy schemes and/or financial products for charging infrastructure? Spring 2021: "Proof of Impact: Green Bonds, Blockchain and Fintech":One of the big issues with Impact Financing and Green Bonds is that investors don’t fully trust how the proceeds are used. In this workshop, we will develop a system that improves green investment management. This system would track an invested dollar: its source, where it goes, its repayment (or lack thereof), its return, and its impact. It would also keep tabs on the characteristics of the project: was it “green”, did it attract further investment (for better or worse), and so forth.
