About Arif Masrur, Ph.D.

I'm excited to live in the era of big data, IoT, and cloud computation which are drastically shaping our 'now' and the future. Spatial big data and GeoAI have propelled new methods and approaches to address challenges in the natural environment & disaster management and urban economic & public health issues. As a trained geospatial data science researcher, I investigate these issues by using, developing, and adapting software tools and techniques to meet two essential goals: i) advance scientific knowledge and ii) provide actionable, time-sensitive, and high-impact decision supports. 🎓 I defended my Ph.D. dissertation (Geography/GIScience) in Dec 2021, that developed and investigated spatially explicit machine/deep learning approaches to accurately model and physically interpret geographic events (e.g., wildfires, air pollution, etc.). When I am not working, I like to go for hiking or playing tennis.
