About Amber D. Dodd

Amber D. Dodd (she/her) is an award-winning writer curator, and editor with a special interest in contextualizing Black America. She currently serves as the Associate Editor for Howard University. She manages The Dig, the University's media site of all things Howard; press releases, feature stories, announcements, etc. and copy edits University wide language. She also copy edits the University's external and internal statements. Amber is also a freelance weekend copyeditor and journalist at the AFRO’s Washington D.C. bureau. In her previous role as the inaugural Racial-Equity Reporter for The Spokesman-Review and The Black Lens, Amber curated ‘Spokane Black Stories,’ a literature collection by local Black high schoolers, and ‘Slice of Spectrum Life,’ a project detailing Spokane’s queer community in a series of mini feature stories. As Racial Equity Reporter, she wrote award-winning pieces about the Indigenous tribes of the Pacific Northwest, local reactions to national news on America’s racial and systemic dynamics, and art and sports features on Black people in Spokane.Amber was an assistant nonfiction editor of Sundog Literary Magazine with essays in Stellium Literary Magazine and Carefree Mag. She is the winner of TEXLANDIA Magazine’s 2022 Best in the Land Contest and the $1,000 grand prize with her nonfiction story ‘Party Favors.’ She placed second in Stellium’s Cusp Prize contest with her hybrid nonfiction piece ‘Instagram is Nonfiction.’Amber holds a Bachelor's of Arts in Communications from Mississippi State University. She participated in the New York Times Student Journalism Institute that summer. Amber is also a sports journalist. She's a Latin scholar specializing in the relationship between Latin etymology and English sentence structure.She enjoys Pharrell’s four-count intros, thrifting and college football.
