About Amanda Blake
As a recent graduate of Southern Adventist University (SAU) (B.A. Journalism) with extensive experience in the communications field, I am skilled in writing, copy editing, interviewing, and content strategy.During the 2023-2024 academic year, I served as editor-in-chief of my university’s student newspaper, the “Southern Accent.” Before taking on this leadership role, I spent 2.5 years on the paper’s staff — reporting, editing, designing . . . and (eventually) managing writers. As head of the paper, I continued to perform those duties while also leading a service-oriented team of more than 20 talented students. I was dedicated to producing an informative and engaging newspaper each week in print and online, breaking news and maintaining quality coverage of our campus and local community. In addition to the Accent, my work has been featured in several magazines and newspapers, including the Chattanooga Times Free Press. Many of my articles published by entities outside SAU I wrote in my role as a staff writer for the university’s Marketing and University Relations department. This job and my summer spent as an internal communications intern at nationwide mental healthcare company Thriveworks have gifted me with invaluable experience working within a corporate structure and capturing the brand of an organization through consistent writing. Newspapers, magazines, marketing, and internal comms — together, these experiences have shaped me into an enthusiastic communicator, talented writer, capable learner, skillful strategist, and strong leader. I am a journalist committed to excellence, full of ideas, passionate about the field of communications and in love with storytelling. In all things, I endeavor to serve others.
