About Andrea Caldwell

An external affairs professional, Ms. Caldwell works collaboratively and strategically to further the mission of San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance (SDZWA). She utilizes her talents to develop and implement policy analysis/positioning, programming, messaging, and events related to advocacy, community relations, and other special projects with an eye for creating processes and customer service. Andrea is currently employed at SDZWA as its Director, Government Affairs, previously holding the titles of Associate Director, Community and Government Relations; and Manager, Community and Government Relations. In her current role, she is responsible for developing advocacy strategies and campaigns on the federal, state and local levels; building relationships with key stakeholders; and lobbying for funding at the federal and state level, securing million of dollars for capital projects in additional to programmatic funds. Using data to identify key stakeholders, she works to make connections between the conservation work at SDZWA and current issues or policies including climate change, sustainability, and saving species. Serving as a liaison to influential community groups community groups and events, she educates others about SDZWA conservation programs and mission. Prior to joining SDZWA, she served as Executive Assistant to Balboa Park Conservancy. As a start-up non-profit, Andrea managed a wide array of tasks ranging from governance through serving the Board of Directors, managing daily operations, connecting with the broader community, graphic design, manage the audit, and organizing Balboa Park December Nights, which at the time was in-person, attracting more than 300,000 attendees. While Ms. Caldwell worked at Centre City Development Corporation (now Civic San Diego), she managed its remote facility, the Downtown Information Center. This facility was designed as a marketing tool to encourage the public to consider living and working downtown San Diego. During her time there, she worked on messaging to the public on the benefits of downtown. She also updated processes and managed staff and a volunteer program with more than 25 volunteers working various shifts throughout the week. Additionally, she was responsible for numerous large and small events, including the San Diego Multicultural Festival, which attracted an estimated 20,000 attendees, which finished under-budget.
