In my professional opinion, a good Grocery Manager has four qualities: cares for the customers' every need; supervises and trains the Grocery staff and delegate both critical and non-urgent tasks; is dependable and isn’t worried about getting his hands dirty; and ensures the store’s selection is exactly according to plan-o-grams but slightly adjusted to cater to the local market’s needs. You want someone with youthful finesse and out-of-the-box, unorthodox thinking, but with the critical thinking and problem solving of an experienced manager. You want someone who can, on the surface, be approachable, considerate, excellent with customers, and an amazing team player, but still mentally able to contemplate time-sensitive issues and show the utmost concern for the bottom line. Most importantly, you want a Grocery Manager not just in it for the paycheck, but for the environment and the passion, and the rewards they bring. I'm that Grocery Manager.• Managed the Grocery department of several stores ranging from $200 thousand to $5 million in gross sales per fiscal year• Supervised and trained between one and seven stock clerks (depending on the location) in various functions of the Grocery department (i.e. trained in produce, FIFO stock rotation, freight receiving) and cross-trained stock clerks in front-end functions and merchandising• Proficiently ordered product for shelves, keeping track of top sellers and ordering accordingly to projected sales• Provided care and dedication to my position at all times by finishing every task within two days of starting the task
