Have worked with homeless and at-risk youth and young adults for about 20 years. Executive director of Youth in Transition since 1995 (also founder of YIT). Goals: to rebuild a place where Albuquerque's homeless and at-risk youth have a place/a safe-haven to go when they need and want to. To continue to provide case-management, crisis intervention, referrals, advocacy, outreach, and love to Albuquerque's young people who have fallen through the cracks. Those who can't or won't, for a variety of reasons flourish in other, more traditional programs. Right now YIT (with no funds) continues to work with an average of 20 young people a month. I want to see us having the resources to provide more and better services to more of this extremely disenfranchised population. A big part of those resources is our ultimate goal of rebuilding the drop in center that was lost in 2005, a resource that allowed us to work with an average of 60 young people a day, 100 unduplicated in a month, and over 1,000 unduplicated in a year.Specialties: Working with the most difficult, challenging, neglected, needy, under-served, and complex youth in Albuquerque. Issues and Specialties: Homelessness, Mental illness, Sex workers, the incarcerated and those re-integrating, drug and alcohol abuse and addictions, Advocacy. Civil and Human Rights, para-legal experience, outreach and recruitment.

Executive DirectorYouth In Transition, Inc. Feb 1995 - PresentAs executive director, I established and operated a drop-in center for Albuquerque's most needy, troubled, undeserved, and difficult to work with homeless and at-risk street youth and young adults. Due to lack of resources, the drop-in center, which had been open for 8 years (until 2005) was closed. I still provide most of the services that were provided through the center to this unique youth population. Youth in Transition's mission is "Building a Foundation for a Brighter Future For Homeless and At-risk Youth and Youth Adults". Presently, YIT (if resources are available) provides case-management, crisis-intervention, outreach, advocacy, transportation, referrals, a mailing address, food, jail/prison reintegration, tutoring, help with school and/or job placement, and other needed services as the need(s) arises. The population served were and still remains one that cannot or will not access other services for a wide variety of reasons. Other duties, past and past, include supervision and scheduling of employees and volunteers, networking, grant-writing, and the creation of and maintenance of manuals, forms, and other important materials. As the director of the drop-in center, we were serving an average of 50-60 young people per day (and their children) between the ages of 12 and 24 (most of our clientelle was and is between the ages of 15 and 24)..

Case-ManagerYouth In Transition, Inc. Feb 1995 - PresentCase-manager for Albuquerque's homeless youth and young adults; those who primarily have fallen through the cracks of every other agency and/or service; those who cannot or will not respond to other, more traditional options due to the severity of their problems and behaviors; work primarily with young people who have problems with addictions, who work as sex workers, who are mentally ill, who are involved in the criminal justice system, those who are gang-affiliated etc.; not a "quick-fix" population but rewarding and when done with respect, patience, and a great deal of genuine compassion, this population very often flourishes despite all odds.
