About Amer Matar‬‎

As a Syrian journalist and documentary filmmaker with over a decade of experience, I have dedicated my career to using the power of media to create positive change and amplify the voices of marginalized communities.I started my work as a journalist in 2007, writing for a number of Arab newspapers from Damascus. In addition to my work in journalism, I am also proud of my achievements as a documentary filmmaker. Through my foundation, AlShare Media Foundation, I have produced a large number of impactful documentaries and organized artistic projects. I founded and directed the Mobile Film Festival, which screened films in 30 cities both inside Syria and around the world, using the power of film to shed light on human rights violations and promote social change. My expertise in storytelling, project management, and cross-cultural communication has allowed me to successfully undertake challenging projects. My current focus is on the "ISIS Prisons Museum" project, which uses advanced technology to create a virtual museum space where visitors can learn about the fate of their loved ones and the atrocities committed by ISIS.

The "Syria Mobile Films Festival" was a pioneering initiative that aimed to showcase the power of mobile phones as a tool for artistic expression and social change. Launched in 2013, the festival recognized the vital role that mobile phones had played in documenting the uprisings across the Arab world and in capturing human rights violations. The festival's first edition in 2014 was a remarkable achievement, with films screened for local audiences inside Syria despite challenging security conditions. The festival also toured to more than twenty cities around the world, bringing films and the voices of directors to a global audience. The festival provided a unique platform for professional directors and amateurs alike to use their mobile phones to create innovative and creative films on a low budget. The festival's training programs, such as the "Pixel" program, helped to cultivate a new generation of filmmakers who were able to use mobile phones as a tool to tell their stories and share their vision with the world. The "Syria Mobile Films Festival" ran from 2013 to 2018, providing a powerful platform for artistic expression and social change during a time of great upheaval and transformation in the Middle East.
