Surgical Coder
CurrentAs a coder, I work a range of facilities, including hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers and walk-in clinics. After a physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner or other caregiver has seen the patient, I review that caregiver's written or electronic notes. Each aspect of patient care, whether as simple as a vaccination or as complex as outpatient surgery, can be represented by a combination of codes. I must know enough about human anatomy, medical terminology and medical procedures to understand the caregiver's notes and match the procedures to the correct codes.Right now, I code for general surgery. I code and post charges for the physican and hospital. I also have coded for spine and pain management in the past.
