Community & Partnerships ManagerMarketcircle 2015 - 2020Markham, Ontario, CanadaIn 2015 we were in transition from premise-based software to our Cloud system. I continued my role as partnerships manager which now involved migration of all existing customers to the Cloud platform, as well as transitioning all partners from the old license-based revenue model to our new recurring revenue model; including the safe & successful migration of all their clients' databases. I was thrilled to have the support of our partners on this as they quickly and efficiently moved their customers into the Cloud. Once this transition was over, we saw a significant contribution in revenue via partner-referred Cloud accounts because most of them were multi-user clients with high lifetime value.Once that transition was completed, I focused heavily on building up our community by finding new revenue streams via the implementation of an affiliate program. I reached out to our influencers and high profile customers to offer them the option of referring potential customers in exchange for a trackable commission. This led to developing new marketing content like case studies, industry templates, and testimonials that helped us further penetrate key industries.I was also tasked with researching ways to revive our community by implementing a new public forum. This would allow our customers to interact & learn from each other, but more importantly, our partners could participate and offer help in order to attract new clients. It was the executive team's decision to put the forum project on hold before we could launch. -
Education ManagerMarketcircle 2013 - 2015Markham, Ontario, CanadaInitially I was asked to maintain our existing documentation which was primarily in the form of user guides and manuals. When our customer base grew beyond our ability to train one-to-one, I was tasked with creating a series of videos as this was becoming the new norm for learning software. The videos relieved mounting pressure on our sales & support teams as well as our partners to speak to everyone individually by phone. This involved taking a course on effective learning styles as well as picking up skills in video recording and editing apps. What we noticed was that we saw an uptake on the length of time people were spending on the website. The videos were working!Later I was asked to create more formalized online courses and launch an all-new education platform. I used my experience with technical writing as well as all the years spend talking to customers on the phone, to build a series of courses that could be delivered remotely or online as pre-recorded videos. Then worked with our in-house developers to build it into our online store, as well as implement the videos with progress markers & exam content for certificates of completion.Eventually I included the Partnerships I had previously made, and made them instructors of these courses, providing them with a fresh revenue stream. -
Partnerships ManagerMarketcircle 2009 - 2013Markham, Ontario, CanadaAs Business Development Manager, I created and managed relationships with:- Hundreds of Apple Specialists (authorized retail stores)- Business teams at nearly all Apple retail stores- Apple Certified Consultants around the world- Distributors to stock and ship Apple Specialists & Apple RetailI provided ongoing training to the above including store staff both in person and remotely. Assisted Specialists in establishing new B2B sales channels by positioning our software to their customers. For many customers, our Mac-based CRM software was the final requirement to ditch their Windows machines.Apple Corporate invited solicited a meeting to involve me in new initiatives like “App Spotlight”, a program which helped third party vendors gain awareness. Many teams at Apple stores and Apple Corporate were familiar with and/or using our software as a result.I built and formalized our Partner Program, which would be positioned as a business opportunity for Apple Consultants to help them attract new business. Through services like hardware setup, networking, database configuration, data imports, and ongoing training, we were able to mutual benefit from the relationship. I created various levels of certification to keep partners engaged, tracked partner sales through sold licenses, and worked with them to create additional industry specific content to further increase our reach. Rather than simply focusing on traditional Apple markets like Film, Music and Graphic arts, we penetrated into key industries that were switching to Macs in large numbers by creating bespoke templates that new customers could 'drop into' their database. This helped customers understand the features and available workflows much faster than traditional training methods, and we succeeded in attracting new Legal, Real Estate, Finance, Consulting, Sales, and Manufacturing clients as a result.Eventually this led to more interaction between Apple Retail and Apple Consultants, a win/win for all. -
Sales ManagerMarketcircle Inc. 2006 - 2009Markham, Ontario, CanadaAfter a stint in sales I was asked to build a sales team and become the sales & support manager. I hired and trained new staff, eventually promoting Matt Ives to support manager and focused on growing our sales team. Over the years we met the targets set forth by the company of having each sales person sell 100 licenses per month of our software. Our unique approach of inviting customer interactions by providing education ensured a strong relationship, gaining us repeat business with relative ease.During this time I also began to travel to various technology shows showcasing Apple hardware, products and third-party services. I participated in and later planned/led our trips to Macworld Expo in San Francisco, which involved managing the logistics around setup & operation of our expo booth. I’ve travelled to nearly 100 places representing Marketcircle around the world, primarily in the US.What I take most pride in while fulfilling this role was to build an honest, hard-working, collaborative sales team made up of smart people who were genuinely interested in helping our customers succeed at using our software. They all became masters at understanding customer needs, gaining trust, positioning our product to meet those needs, and maintaining long-lasting relationships with our customers. -
Sales SpecialistMarketcircle Inc. Aug 2004 - 2006Markham, Ontario, CanadaI went from being the only sales person at Marketcircle to building a sales team during this period of time and managed their activities.Marketcircle first hired me to handle all their sales inquiries from the various small businesses they were attracting. These companies were all Mac offices with Apple hardware only, some veteran Mac users and some recent PC switchers. They were looking for a CRM system to replace their PC-based software, or to replace aging Mac apps that were not being kept up to date (think CAT & ACT! For Mac).If you called Marketcircle it was either to speak to me, or to my colleague in support. We were the first line. In that first month I had to learn the Mac platform of which I had no previous experience, our product (a complex CRM), its core customer & their needs, as well as developing relationships with my colleagues, all of which I found deeply rewarding.During this time in sales, I serviced our unique niche of small business customers by positioning our product to solve communication & workflow problems & create productive company processes that would ensure our customers were successful using the app. I learned how to craft online demos, create quick start guides, and produce videos (one-to-many) to help me position our product to the interested business owners who came from various industries and backgrounds.Using our own app thoroughly to manage this entire sales process, I created a follow up system to ensure customers would buy new version when it was ready for release. I also maintained a feedback cycle with engineering to communicate our customers’ growing needs. -
Technical SupportSun Microsystems 2001 - 2003Toronto, Ontario, CanadaIT technicianMy first role was to help build the infrastructure of our network & workstations by drawing ethernet cables, cloning PC’s, and setting up office areas with furniture & lighting (boardrooms, training centres, & multi floor networks for our growing staff.Technical support advisorI transitioned to technical support when we launched our online learning platform called Learntone (acquired by Sun). It was the the basis for transitioning to quality assurance testing, forum support, and online documentation management, all of which were cutting edge at the time.
