I am beginning my teaching career in August 2024 as the new 3rd grade teacher at Sacred Heart Schools. I have worked here for the last 4 years as a teaching assistant in 1st grade. I was working and going to school full time to complete my masters of education. I just graduated in May 2024 with my masters degree and I have successfully accepted the 3rd grade teacher position at SHS. I am super excited to start my first year of teaching as a lead teacher.

Working with the Head of the Primary School, along with the Head of Schools, to implement the Goals and Criteria and philosophy of Sacred Heart education; as well as the local mission of Sacred Heart Schools, Chicago. Conducting instruction in their assigned areas. Taking part in school activities, faculty and department meetings, in-service programs, parent-teacher conferences and other extra-curricular activities. Acting as an advisor, class moderator, homeroom teacher. Assisting in supervision when needed. Actively pursuing her/his own professional development as directed by the Division Head and the Head of Schools. Integrating technology into the curriculum. My main duty was addressing any concerns and questions regarding directions around campus and executing managerial behavior to the student workers. I was a student worker starting in August 2018 and within a year, I had proven to my supervisors that I was a responsible and hardworking student. This led to the promotion from student worker to student supervisor. I was in charge of the students and the entire building while on duty. I had monitored students checking in from other schools and visitors, while revitalizing problems that visitors acquired while in the building. Getting promoted from student worker to student supervisor strengthened my interpersonal communication skills because I had proven that I was able to handle any situation that came my way. I dealt with all sorts of people and had to attend to a wide spectrum of questions for students and community guests.

First, my duty was to endorse a supportive environment among the children. This involved encouraging children to use their words allowing them to develop stronger communication skills. Everyday brought a new challenge and this had to be dealt with on the spot and the solutions had to be developed quickly. Another duty was motivating children to use the bathroom while ensuring a sanitary and safe environment. These kids had to wash their hands at least 10 times a day. A big achievement of mine was adapting to a system which promoted the learning of each child’s tendencies and behaviors. All children are different in their own way, so it takes a certain level of understanding and listening to be able to keep up with every child's wants and behaviors. I was promoted from being an afternoon assistant and floater, to assistant counselor and teacher. A few skills needed for this position involve problem-solving, communication, listening; anything that involves understanding and providing assistance to children.

Greater Chicago Area

At the Alderman's office, I had a lot of responsibilities. I served as an intern, and I was primarily in the front desk. I had to assist with any clerical and administrative duties that were assigned. Since my desk was in the front, I had to greet anyone that walked in. I had to provide assistance to constituents by answering questions about services offered, whether that was answered in person or over the phone. I was in charge of the main phone line, answering constituents, transferring calls to employees, and taking and filing 311 requests. Another duty was to decorate the front lobby space and make sure that the proper flyers are posted and everything looks as organized as possible. The biggest project I had was to create a new website for the Alderman and transfer over every single file and article from their old website to the new one.
