Advising on research and technology innovation

Developing cutting edge advanced manufacturing technologies based on pulsed laser ablation for next generation of electronic and robotic systems

I am a visiting Research Fellow at the Rolls-Royce UTC in Manufacturing and On-wing Technnologies, where I:- Advise on design and development of novel sensor systems for robotics and process monitoring;- Advise on design and development of control and navigation methods and techniques for automation;- Supervise PhD candidates in the area of sensing and robotic systems.

I led teams of internal and external stakeholders in shaping and designing research and development propositions and innovation programmes exceeding £70M focusing on applications of digital technologies within the manufacturing and creative sectors and secured competitive UK government funding in excess of £6.8M for the Digital Catapult to deliver the projects.

Within this role I:- Advised clients, mainly FTSE 100 and FTSE 250 companies, in two areas:1) Research and innovation strategies including strategic research and innovation development plans and preparation of research and innovation grant proposals. 2) R&D Tax claims including conducting technical interviews, evaluation of industrial R&D projects, and preparation of technical reports for tax claims.- Contributed in design and development of a cloud-based semantic search discovery tool for business intelligence and incentives landscape.- Contributed in business development (≈£200k)

Within this role I:- I lead a team of four post-doctorates in design and development of robotic/semi-robotic instruments for inspection, repair and maintenance of high-value assets;- Designed systems and architectures for robotic and autonomous systems for inspection, repair and maintenance of jet engines;- Project managed multi-national and multi-disciplinary UK/EU & industrial projects (≈£4.9M);- Developed research and innovation strategies for repair and inspection of high-value components; - Advised external industrial clients/partners on automation, robotics and manufacturing process developments;- Contributed in business development by writing research project grant proposals (e.g. Industrial, H2020, I-UK & EPSRC)- securing over £1.85m R&D project funds.- Supervised postgraduate student projects (PhD, MSc and MEng levels).

I worked closely with Repair Technology Team to identify, develop and deploy solutions for on-wing inspection and repair of civil aircraft jet engines.

Within this role I:- Designed and developed process/condition monitoring methods for manufacturing of high-value components;- Designed embedded electronics for complex robotic systems; - Designed and developed sensorial systems and signal processing techniques for manufacturing processes; - Project managed EU & industrial projects (≈£3.3M);- Taught and supervised undergraduate and postgraduate students (MSc, MEng and BEng levels).

I assisted in teaching and running laboratory practical sessions within the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering for the following modules:- Electromechanical systems 1 - Electricity and magnetism- Communication engineering- Oscillators- Laboratory skills A/M

I worked on the Iran-Armenia Gas Metering Station project, my activities included:- Design and development of data acquisition systems (DAQs)- Preparation of design data sheets and reports- Assisting in day to day project management including contribution to project planning and execution

During this internship I was involved in design and implementation of firmware and hardware for digital studios.

Within this role I was involved in setting up and testing electronic medical systems including programming and testing electrocardiograph systems (ECGs) and setting up and servicing heart test systems at hospitals and medical centres.

During this internship I was part of a team of three where we conducted technical studies on three-phase motors to measure economical impacts of their applications within large automotive assembly plants.
