Advancete is a research and development intensive company specialising in advanced laser processing solutions. With a focus on the semiconductor and electronics industries the company has developed two patented novel technology solutions: (i) AquaLase®: A liquid assisted laser process, that utilises an ultra­short pulsed laser ablation (PLA) technique along with active cooling, for dicing and drilling thick and brittle wafers. The process significantly reduces the processing time associated with the PLA process and reduces thermal induced stresses through a multi-step approach and comprehensive cooling technique. It has been demonstrated that AuqaLase is improving the production yield to 83%+ for devices made from thick (≥250µm) and brittle wafers (e.g. LiNbO3, LiTaO3, SiC, Glass, etc.). This improvement is achieved by the elimination of cut edge chipping and collateral damage such as fracturing of surrounding material. (ii) UltraSleeve®: An encapsulation solution utilising diamond and boron nitride for protecting commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) components and systems for applications in extreme environments (e.g. nuclear, space, aerospace, marine, submarine, chemical, etc.). The solution provides a quick and adaptable method, reduces the size of electronic systems and accelerates deployment of electronics systems and devices within extreme environments by providing an opportunity for the designers to use the vast pool of COTS components and circuitry. The technology provides mechanical robustness, high thermal conductivity, high radiation hardness and shielding.
