Dr. Amit Kumar has been involved in interdisciplinary research that primarily focuses on understanding the ecological implications of climate change and disaster risk in both urban regions and forest ecosystems, with the aim of developing innovative solutions for climate-resilient ecosystems and society. He is engaged with various R&D projects including state-of-the-art LTEO projects of MoEFCC, NASA-ISRO SAR, GISAT and Airborne Hyperspectral Sensing missions for vegetation monitoring and disaster resilience. Presently, he is working as a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at Purdue University, USA in the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources (FNR). He is also affiliated to Sikkim University, India as the Professor of Geography. He has supervised 05 PhD Scholars, 59 PG dissertations, published 03 books and 120+ research articles in various journals and books of international and national repute. He is the recipient of several international and national awards including the Indo-US Nehru Fulbright fellowship for academic and professional excellence (Research) 2023-2024, fellow (2022) and Young Scientists Award (2021) from SSCE, New Delhi, SERB-ITSS etc. He is a member of various academic societies including IUCN-Commission on Ecosystem Management (South Asia), National Association of Geographers-India, Global Forest Biodiversity Initiatives, USA, Indian Society of Geomatics-Ahmedabad etc.
