Whenever I am asked what I do, it is impossible for me to respond in any way other than to tell them that I am a scientist while having a giant smile on my face. The conversation either ends there or quickly turns into a discussion on why I love being a scientist. A curiosity of the world around me and a desire to learn more about how things work was where it started, a spark which was nurtured by a series of teachers and mentors. What kind of scientist am I? An interdisciplinary one, the challenges the scientific community is taking on today requires us to bring several proficiencies to the table to get the job done. As an Analytical Chemist my experiences have primarily focused on method development, experiment design and biological/pharmaceutical applications. I am most familiar with liquid chromatography and capillary electrophoresis separations (achiral and chiral), and also have expertise in mass spectrometry and a variety of other measurement approaches. As a firm believer in the mantra "how you sample determines what you measure," sample acquisition and processing is also an area I have studied extensively. There is no question that science is my passion, vocation, profession and mission - science is my ikigai.
