Received my Masters of applied science under the supervision of Dr. Alison McGuigan and Dr. Penney Gilbert. The title of my thesis was "Development of a 96-Well Platform to Increase Throughput of a Muscle Endogenous Repair Model".

This role was for the first year Engineering Strategies and Practice course at the University of Toronto. In the course, the students learned about how to approach projects and problems as an engineer. As the TA of the course, I guided students through the different stages of an engineering project, including clearly identifying and defining the problem.

• Led a team of 16 to develop a modular DNA based assay for the sensitive and selective quantification of lung cancer miRNA.
• Recruited a group of talented, hard-working individuals.
• Conducted brainstorming sessions to filter, develop and mold various ideas into the topic of our project.
• Identified the strength and weaknesses of the members, then delegated tasks that would challenge and facilitate each member's growth.
• Identified three different scope levels and identified goals for each scope.
• Procured the required lab materials and components for the project.

• Developed four different ImageJ macros utilizing techniques including machine learning functions for the detection and quantification of stem cell aggregates in various culture modes.
• Improved the methods for imaging and processing 3D cultures, effectively decreasing their quantification time from 25 minutes to 5 minutes.
• Broadened group’s understanding of stem cell aggregate formation and growth mechanisms inside suspension cultures by combining image analysis skills with experimental design.
• Designed 7 experiments to gain understanding of a phenomenon.
• Formulated a hypothesis for the causes of the phenomenon and its potential applications based on comprehensive considerations of results from all experiments and literature readings.
• Trouble-shoot and maintained the lab’s media analyzer machine.

• Developed a high-throughput method for production of pseudo-islets using MIN6 cells to model primary Neonatal Porcine Islets (~15,000 pseudo-islets per T-75 flask).
• Created a protocol for the analysis of the quality, size, number of the pseudo-islets and individual cell counts.
• Developed a macro on ImageJ to be used for size analysis of aggregates in microscopic images of wells, improving the speed of the process by 60 times.
• Modified our ELISA protein assay protocol incorporate the usage of the automated liquid handling robot available in the lab; this decreased the standard deviation between replicates by 2 times.
