About Amna A.

Self directed, highly driven and an equity enthusiast, I am passionate about education as a means to supporting everyone and anyone realise their goals.Currently a Centre Leader for IntoUniversity, my focus is on community collaboration to build a strong, learning foundation. I was fortunate enough to have been a part of the Barclays LifeSkills team within Scotland, and my experience in that employability programme has taught me a number of strategies in which to help young people across the West develop the skills, confidence and knowledge that they need for a future positive destination. My experience in a variety of of roles and settings has allowed me to develop and progress key transferable skills:* Relationship management internally and externally, to build lasting and beneficial relationships to positively impact the programme and communities* Using my experience and knowledge of the Scottish Education system to make informed decisions and choices for the benefit of the programme and communities* Strong leadership as I support new and existing members of the team whilst providing opportunities for development and reflection, which I also engage with.* Working under pressure and to tight deadlines * Being proactive and creatively problem solving, having a bank of solutions before the problem makes itself knownAnd after all this, I still find time to be a full time cat mum to my fluffball, Toby. “There is no paycheck that can equal the feeling of contentment that comes from being the person you are meant to be.” Oprah Winfrey

Facilitator

Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom

As a Facilitator for Business in the Community, I currently work as part of the Barclays LifeSkills team to deliver the LifeSkills programme to educational establishments all over Glasgow and Kilmarnock. To deliver the programme I work with my team in order to initially identify schools that are in areas of high deprivation. I collaborate directly with the school senior leadership team to create a tailored package of four workshops that provide the required areas of support that also feed into the school improvement plan and reflect the curriculum. This package could be for targeted students, a whole year group or various cohorts depending on the needs of the school. As well as the school and young people we also provide opportunities for volunteers to join us at workshops. The volunteers are encouraged to actively engage as much as they feel comfortable. I am responsible for any volunteer that attends our session and I strive to make it as enjoyable an experience as possible. I encourage the volunteers to directly engage with students by sharing their working journeys and experiences as well as working in groups with students.

Primary School Teacher

Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom

As a primary teacher I have many responsibilities in and out of the classroom. My main responsibility links to my teaching. Using guidance provided by the Scottish Government I interpret and plan an annual curriculum linked to the age and abilities of my learners. My planning is done in many stages, with annual, termly and weekly timetables created. As well as planning I also source, adapt and create resources that support the teaching that is delivered. Assessment is also an integral part of my role and I regularly asses my learners and myself to ensure that the learning is accessible, relevant and enjoyable and that I am also providing a positive and nurturing learning environment for all. Being a teacher ensures that I am not only extremely organised but that I am continuously adapting my own practice to meet the needs of others through self reflection, feedback and peer collaboration. I employ creative methods to ensure the engagement of my learners and a variety of resources to support all learning types. I am committed to getting it right for everyone whatever support they require in order to be successful.

Nov 2017 - Dec 2019

Customer Service Representative

Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom

My main duties included covering all aspects of customer service within the store which ranged from dealing with the online click and collect service, complaints, moneygram, returns and general enquiries. I also provided support on the checkouts and I was fully trained to deal with the self service checkout area which meant overseeing 20 self scan checkouts at any time whilst assisting customers with issues, demonstrating how to use the machines and technical support when the machines broke down. When new colleagues joined the team I provided practical training support in many ways such as modelling how to use a variety of equipment and systems, how to deal with queries in a professional, consistent and positive manner and where information could be found should a new issue arise. I acted as a buddy, continuing to provide support whilst encouraging independence which allowed my new colleagues to develop their own knowledge, skills and confidence.

Nov 2016 - Nov 2017

Motor Claims Handler

Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom

Within the Direct Line Group I was the first point of contact for customers after they had been involved in an incident with their vehicles. Dealing with all the brands under the Direct Line Group I kept up to date with all policies including their terms and conditions as this was integral to my role. At the first point of contact I recorded all the details of the incident, providing the customers with information regarding liability and any resulting action whilst ensuring that I also provided support and reassurance as many of our customers had found themselves in this position for the first time and were going through a range of emotions. Being able to be patient, understanding and empathetic was key for the customer’s experience. Apart from general incident claims I also dealt with Theft claims which involved a lot more individual work with customers, other departments and external agencies. With my experience I regularly helped to train my colleagues when new Theft advisors were required. Reflecting on my own training experience when I started the role I created a document for my colleagues which allowed them to understand the role at a glance whilst also have a collection of information that was most relevant to the role at that time. The document received positive feedback from colleagues and management alike and was later used as part of the official training across numerous sites.

Sep 2013 - Oct 2016

Play Coordinator

Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom

A voluntary role, the Play Coordinator required a degree of responsibility from myself. As a play service it was my responsibility to plan an annual programme of play which took many factors into consideration such as health and safety, infection control, annual religious and non religious events and collaborations with the hospital itself. As well as planning the programme I then had to ensure that I oversaw the stock of materials such as games, toys and crafts. Keeping a record of the stock allowed me to actively engage with the volunteers and children taking feedback on what worked well and what to avoid in future. It also allowed me to stay within our budget which, as a charity, was extremely important. Outwith the planning of our annual programme I was also responsible for ensuring that all our volunteers were aware of infection control procedures and practised these when visiting the wards. I organised regularly training events in collaboration with the hospital and other professionals in order to ensure that my information was up to date and the volunteers were always aware of our expectations. I also created literature for new and existing volunteers as a means of referral should any information be required.
