Amy-Beth Mccarthy Email and Phone Number
I work as a Young Carers Officer at YMCA Swansea advocating and raising awareness for young carers locally and nationally. I deliver accredited training to professionals working with young people to help them identify, recognise and support young carers within their organisations. A big achievement of mine would be winning ‘Young Campaigner of the Year 2022’ for the Youth Matters Awards, hosted by YMCA England and Wales. I achieved this by advocating and campaigning for young carers to be recognised nationally, working in school to identify young carers, to train professionals and by implementing the national Young Carers ID Card in organisations across Swansea. In September 2020 I joined the Youth Ambassador Program at YMCA England & Wales. In this role I help to shape the support offered and give a voice to young people on the issues that affect them, publicise local campaigns to create change in communities and determine what policies we should be focused on. Since becoming a Youth Ambassador, I have attended a number of national and global conferences. One being COP26 where I was one of 12 Delegates worldwide sharing the voice of young people on how climate change is affecting them. I am excited to begin my journey as a Change Agent as part of Cohort 5 @worldymca. I will be focusing on the four pillars of vision 2030, meaningful work, a just world, sustainable planet and community wellbeing, I will be undertaking online and face to face training, on leadership skills, with the opportunity of travel, and work on local project development for the expansion of youth services. When not working for YMCA, I spend my time at the theatre, whether that be watching shows or managing productions. I also take pride in working for Brave Arts Theatre Company where I support the running of rehearsals, set design, and stage management.
