I work as a wildlife road ecologist under Associate Professor Guy Castley. We are currently working on a Smart Signs project with Redland City Council to assess alternative wildlife warning sign designs.The Applied Road Ecology Group was also part of the project team involved in monitoring multiple ecopassages and assessing connectivity as part of the Moreton Bay Rail Alternative Koala Habitat Offsets Connectivity Monitoring Program for the Department of Transport and Main Roads.I have also provided expert road ecology advice to consultancies and councils.

I worked on the Wildlife-Vehicle Collision Mitigation Program Development Project for the City of Gold Coast. I was specifically sought out because of my expertise in road ecology and worked with the project team to develop the WVC Mitigation Program across the Gold Coast. This included working closely with Conservation Officers in Council to develop detailed solutions that were suitable for each site and the wider landscape so that connectivity opportunities were maximised.

I worked with Dr Bradley Smith on a project examining non-lethal tools for sustainable dingo management to promote human-carnivore co-existence.

I worked as a research assistant under Associate Professor Darryl Jones. The project involved a stepped monitoring research program for two ecopassages located within the Greenbank Military Training Area section of the Darra to Springfield Transport Corridor. My involvement in the project extended to assistance in camera set up at the study site, data processing and collation, and writing reports. My work for this project also involved coordination with technical contractors and other research assistants.

I worked as a research assistant and project manager under Professor Darryl Jones. I co-managed five road ecology projects throughout Brisbane and Redland Cities, as well as working on the beginnings of the SEQ koala road mitigation project for the Department of Transport and Main Roads towards the end of this role. My involvement in each project extended to liaising with Local Government authorities and State Government departments, selecting appropriate study sites, and coordinating and providing guidance and advice on aspects of field work to other research assistants and volunteers. Where project design required specialist research knowledge from outside of the expertise of the Applied Road Ecology research group, I liaised with other researchers and gathered the appropriate information to manage and conduct the research to high standards. I also conducted literature searches and wrote reviews as required, and I was responsible for the writing and editing of scientific reports for these research projects, as well as the presentation of results at conferences and to community groups. During this period I was also involved in the organisation of Australia’s first road ecology conference, Breaking the Barriers in Brisbane, May 2009.

I assisted in canopy-based research, which is a key part of the IBISCA Queensland Field Survey at Lamington National Park, Queensland. I worked in a team of tree climbing professionals and researchers who conducted the collection of canopy leaf specimens and canopy invertebrate specimens from 72 trees. This work involved using my BCAP qualification to select, rig and climb the required trees. Collection methods required the use of hand secateurs, tree loppers and extended sweep nets while in the canopy.

I worked as a casual research assistant as part of the Compton Road research team under Professor Darryl Jones. I conducted field work involving sand tracking, track identification, and scat collections and identification. I conducted all statistical data analyses and was the main contributor to the writing and editing of the subsequent Council reports and scientific articles.
