I am a passionate educator with over 20 years of experience working in public and private Montessori schools, and now as a Structured Literacy tutor/owner of Ms. Amy's Class LLC. My teaching style effectively works with Common Core, Montessori, Waldorf and IB curricula; it is highly explicit, systematic, uses on-going data based decision making and offers my students gentle and consistent corrective feedback. I have an M.Ed., am credentialed in AMI Primary and AMS Elementary I&II, hold State Teaching Licenses in Idaho and Hawai'i, CERI certified as a Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist and am at the Associate Level with the Orton-Gillingham Academy.Before starting my tutoring company in 2020, I had an exciting career as a Montessori teacher which included starting Idaho's first public upper elementary Montessori class, teaching a Primary aged class in St. Thomas Virgin Islands and leading an upper elementary class in Maui. It was in Maui that I realized that my students who struggled with literacy needed more specialized instruction. I took advantage of the Pandemic to get trained in Orton-Gillingham based Structured Literacy methods. The multi-sensory and sequential aspects of Orton-Gillingham marries well with my Montessori foundation. I have witnessed fantastic gains in literacy from all of my students, whether they work with dyslexia or not.
