I am a heritage professional who has critically engaged with questions about place, community and culture for the last 15 years. Working with arts and heritage organisations, I produce exhibitions, events and research interpretation for print and online. I have several years of experience as a volunteer manager, and work closely with customers to discover their local, organisational and personal heritage. My PhD (2017-2023) in critical heritage studies examined the role of the past in our everyday lives. I recruited 17 research participants across three distinct qualitative research phases; in different heritage contexts I explored the distinction between expert/amateur, individual/organisation and the material/intangible. As Local History Officer (2014-2017), I worked in a small team to deliver a reference library and archive service, managing and providing access to Kingston's local history collection (~20,000 items) for individuals, schools, community groups, university researchers and so on.
