In a collaboration between the school of public and international affairs and the institute of disaster management, we are studying the effects of toxic algae blooms in the nearby lakes surrounding Athens Georgia, and what policies could be in place to decrease the likelihood of them occurring.

Extracting blood from patients through venipuncture. Analyzing blood specimens using the correct testing equipment, when necessary. Preparing specimens for transportation, including labeling vials accurately and matching blood specimens to patients.

Was able to work with children raging from newborn to 20 years old. Helped build my confidence in communicating with both the patients and their parents. Understood the names of vaccines and what age group that it should be give too as well as the side effects. Learned what each lab was ran for. Overall this position was an wonderful learning experience for me as it allowed me to interact with people outside my circle and helped build lifelong connections.

As a medical assistant who recently graduated from school, I was allowed to broaden my skills by getting hands-on experience in the pediatric field. I was able to hone my skills in vaccines administration, assisting medical doctors as well as physicians associates in gathering specimens for labs, learning creative ways to retrieve vitals from children, and most importantly working as a team player
