About Amy Mcnab
I have a passion for educating. What's that saying? "Give a man a fish, and you will feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime?!" Education is empowering, it is life-altering, it is evolutionary! I love history. I love crafting unique ways to connect students to the curriculum. I love seeing students get excited about the past, because we are not so different from the folks who have gone before us. History is our roots, our foundation, and it can ground each of us and teach us things about ourselves that are eye-opening and inspiring. I have a passion for designing curriculum that is captivating and interactive so that all types of learners are engaged. I live for the moment when a student becomes invested in the material I am teaching them. When they too feel that connection to our past.My teaching path has been anything but straight. I am a Mom of two and married to an active duty military member. Because of that, I have taught in 4 different states and another country! I have also taken time off to focus on my family. I have been privileged to teach in uniquely different settings- public schools, a private school, an International school funded by the DOD, and a base school. It has given me a wide perspective of cultures, teaching styles, curriculum design, and approaches to education and it has strengthened my abilities as an educator.

I taught US History and World Government to students in grades 8-11. I planned and implemented lesson plans to meet a variety of learning needs, evaluated work and kept records, and entered student grades. This was an international school with an American section, German section and British section so there were many opportunities to participate in multicultural events and learn from other world perspectives. I also coached a JV volleyball team one season.

AGBU is a private Armenian school, which was fairly new at that time. I taught US History, World History, American Government, and Economics to students in grades 8-12. I planned and implemented lessons, maintained student records, issued grades and maintained discipline. This was a challenging and rewarding experience for me. I was the only non-Armenian teacher at the school at that time and I learned a lot about being culturally aware and teaching my subjects in a way that would be sensitive to and also appeal to students from a single and dominant cultural background. I was also a senior class advisor.
