The senior editor for planning and coordination creates the space in which editors and reporters can execute their most ambitious work, across platforms, working closely with Operations to create the blueprint for how we solve for the increasing complexity and scale of NPR’s digital ambitions

Curate home page and post content to social media channels, NPR News App and Apple News. Track breaking news events and send news alerts in collaboration with top newsroom editors. Edit headlines and text on a wide range of subjects to ensure NPR’s content is engaging and reaches a wide audience. Check headlines and story pages to maximize SEO. Work closely with reporters and editors to develop “launch” plans for digital content. Assist Digital Media team to improve digital editorial products.

Edit and produce news, arts and blog content for NPR.org, including but not limited to: writing headlines and other promotional text for multiple platforms; editing photos, graphics and other assets; working with visuals teams to edit videos and apps; working with reporters and producers to rewrite radio scripts for Web audience. Edit and produce weekly Kitchen Window recipe series, working with freelance editor, writers and photographers. Field listener/reader requests for corrections. Curate home page, NPR.org, and help coordinate coverage of breaking news events. Curate NPR’s social media feeds. Serve as sole on-duty editor, producer and home page editor on overnights. Create and deliver internal copy editing workshop. Help maintain internal style guide. Help create and deliver internal CMS training.

Focus on making sure NPR’s most impactful work online reaches the biggest audience. Serve as the connection between strategy and implementation of best practices to drive audience engagement.

Edit transcripts of medical symposiums, workshops and teleconferences for Web audience. Help create and maintain internal style guide.

Edit the county's curriculum for emergency medical personnel and protocol books for paramedics, including a scaled-down version of the latter for its first pocket-size edition.

As copy editor/designer, edit stories and photos, write headlines and design pages for 40,000-circulation daily newspaper, including front page and special sections (seasonal sports previews, quarterly travel, state government and business publications, and a weekly section on the neighboring city of Lacey). Coordinate with city editors, executive and managing editors, reporters and photographers on design and content. As assistant city editor, edit stories and coordinate content, directing reporters as they return from assignment. Assign reporters to cover breaking news, or cover it myself. Field questions, story tips and complaints from readers via phone and e-mail. Post stories, headlines and photos to the website.

Edit local, national, world news, features and sports stories and write headlines and other display copy for 90,000-circulation daily newspaper. Design front pages of metro and sports sections, plus Augusta Business Chronicle monthly, Columbia County News-Times weekly and award-winning Masters golf tournament special sections.
