In this voluntary position I am interviewing a range of volunteers from the Falkirk area to contribute to an oral history of volunteering in Falkirk from the 1980s-Present. I am responsible for setting up these interviews, conducting the interviews and transcribing the interviews. This will contribute to a wider exhibition on volunteering entitled ‘Capturing Volunteer Stories, 1984-2024’.

Within this role I provide concise, specialised and customised information to our visitors in order to continually meet their personal travel needs. This information is communicated in person, by telephone and by email. I routinely use Microsoft packages including Excel, Teams and Word in order to support my outlined duties. In this role I also worked in a small team to support and promote international events, such as the UCI Cycling Championships. Working during this event expanded my knowledge of event organisation and stressed the importance of clear and developed interpersonal skills as I greeted and assisted visitors from across the world. In addition I have assisted in community outreach projects such as supporting the promotion of local events and businesses.Other duties include using an EPOS till system, conducting till counts, stock counts, rotation and replenishment, creating and checking ticketing reports, ordering tickets, and cleaning in order to meet professional standards.

My responsibilities in this role were to liaison with Amazon, ensure the team were hitting targets, ensure team morale was high, use the online system to report issues, take an inventory walk every shift, support the duty manager in creating rotas and also write rotas when required, ensure high quality service to our customers, ensure health and safety policy was being followed, pick customer orders, locate missing stock in the warehouse, submit relevant headcounts and documents to the Amazon team and work with managers to continually improve our departments service.I took a break from this role to participate in the Erasmus scheme and go solo-interrailing February- September 2022. I resumed my role in October 2022.

I moved to this department to help with the implementation of a new Amazon department in store. As this was a new department, I learned to work effectively in a team to ensure its success during the trial period. New duties included picking customer orders efficiently, following food health and safety procedure, packing orders with care to ensure customer satisfaction.

Duties undertaken included cash-handling/ card processing, answering customer queries, work independently on self-scan and kiosk. Working in this department during covid-19 meant I gained more responsibilities such as ensuring appropriate sanitation, monitoring the number of customers in store, ensuring the following of mask mandates and queue marshalling. This meant I had to learn to diffuse difficult situations more effectively, while ensuring all customers were satisfied.

I was a teaching assistant in ballet, tap and acro classes for children aged 18 months-13 years, assisting the dance teacher with all aspects of the classes and helping out in the office and shop, processing uniform sales and fee payments and carrying out ad-hoc secretarial tasks. I also assisted in the running of multiple summer schools where I would assist the teacher in running full days of dance and craft classes.

Duties undertaken include taking and delivering food & drink orders, preparing food, stock rotation and cash-handling/card processing.
