Amy Newberg is the Assistant Director of Advising and Student Services for the Applied Statistics, Social Science, and Humanities department at New York University Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. Within this role, she leads the department advising team and advises graduate students. Prior to her current role, Amy held positions in academic program support, academic advising, and student support services at NYU SPS, Arizona State University, and GateWay Community College, respectively. She was recognized as an ASU Department Rising Star in 2020 for her commitment to excellent service to students. Furthermore, she was awarded the ASU Fulton Schools of Engineering Diversity and Inclusion Award and the ASU Fulton Schools of Engineering Teamwork Award, both in 2021. Most recently, she was granted the Steinhardt Give-A-Violet Award in 2024.Amy is particularly interested in graduate studies, the globalization of higher education, and fostering student belonging and wellbeing. Her work is informed by her training in quantitative research methods, statistical analysis (regression, ANOVA, hierarchical linear modeling, structural equation modeling), and social psychology (close relationships, self and identity, improving group relations). Upon successfully defending her thesis in 2017, she earned her M.S. in psychology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Amy enjoys connecting with and learning from others, most notably through reading biographies, improving her Spanish, or traveling the globe. Originally from Manchester, Connecticut, she resides in Queens, New York.
