For spring and summer programs, I have acted as a volunteer to plan events and organize manuscript submissions for agent and editor review for over 80 writers and illustrators via Dropbox, Microsoft Word, and Google Drive. In person, I have facilitated a small group of writers and industry professionals during a regional event. Throughout planning, the event date, and the follow-up, I communicate regularly with event leaders to ensure a high quality experience for both creators and agents/editors/art directors. As a member of SCBWI, I host bi-monthly Zoom meetings with critique parters. I have contributed articles to quarterly publications. I critique and beta read partial and full manuscripts for writers on a regular basis, and I support and promote local authors and illustrators via local networking and social media.

Over the course of my career in this position, I have maintained positive relationships with collaborators in multiple grade levels and departments to meet the dynamic needs of students in an ever changing environment. This includes the assessment of curricular materials, matching literature to the needs of students, seeking out and implementing individual solutions for students in academic and/or emotional need, advocating for systemic change to address the needs of learners, and providing feedback to adjust and develop student learning plans and/or curriculum changes. Above all, I try to make reading and writing engaging for a subset of young people who would prefer to be doing other things.

At the building level, I've worked with 6th-8th grade teachers to locate and create materials to fit the ever changing initiatives of the district and the diverse needs of the student body. Working with my team of teachers, we've developed text sets including articles, short stories, and novels to support the district approved curriculum. All materials include differentiated materials, assignments, and expectations to meet the needs of all learners. Collaboration has always been the key to success in our department. I collaborate with four to nine teachers and specialists at any given time to evaluate needs in the classroom and plan instructional groupings and strategies to give students what they need. At the district level, I've participated in the planning, writing, and role out of new curriculum and pacing on three separate occasions. In my role as Department Lead, I am often the person called upon to interpret District expectations and communicate with District leadership for clarification and direction.

As a member of a two-teacher team, I wrote the scope and sequence for the 6th grade language arts curriculum. My colleague and I advocated for the needs of classroom teachers to administration, presented new and/or modified district curriculum, assisted with role out, and collaborated with 6th grade language arts teachers across the district to continue coordination and alignment of assessments, goals, and materials.

As a team leader from August, 2011 through June, 2014, I was one of two team leaders for 6th grade responsible for communicating building and/or team level communications shared by administration with the rest of our team. In addition, team leaders aid in problem-solving building needs.

Along with one other colleague, we designed a writing intervention program for students in need of direct writing support. As part of the curriculum, I developed novel study units as a vehicle to prompt multiple forms of writing. In our second year of implementations, we overhauled the writing intervention model by infusing intervention into the social studies curriculum. With no administrative guidelines, we developed a conference model with goal setting and feedback as integral parts of progress monitoring. Conferenced with students about goal setting and progress monitoring.

As a special education teacher and case manager, I managed a resource room and I co-taught classes in math and language arts. I was responsible for revising, developing, and implementing IEPs and modifying curriculum and assessments to meet the specifications of the IEPs.

In this position, I taught three special education classes in reading, writing, and math. I aligned curriculum and lessons to student goals as well as Illinois State Standards.

In this position, I developed and implemented a life skills curriculum for students ages thirteen through eighteen who were incarcerated in a low-security facility. In addition, I taught social studies when the usual teacher was not available.
