About Dr. Amy Bacharach

I have more than 15 years' experience as a policy researcher focusing on juvenile and criminal justice, human trafficking, and collaborative justice and have authored numerous articles, reports, and a book chapter. I've served on statewide task forces related to these issues, and am currently an advisor to an international survey of more than 20 human trafficking responder groups. In addition to my research, I spent many years as an adjunct professor and was named one of the top 25 forensic psychology professors nationwide. I am an alumna of Emerge California and have been an elected district delegate to the California Democratic Party since 2011. In 2014 I was elected to serve as a Trustee on the Board of Directors of San Francisco City College. I work with various organizations in trying to get more women elected to office and striving for comprehensive women's rights, civil rights, and human rights. I created www.parentinginpolitics.com as a resource for moms--and dads--to balance parenting with public service in an effort to get more mothers of young children elected to office. I was also a founding member of Vaccinate California, which sponsored and lobbied for SB 277, mandating vaccines in schools. Most recently, I founded Justice Bakes, which hosts bake sale fundraisers for abortion rights.I grew up in Philadelphia and have lived in Mulhouse, France, and Mexico City and have traveled extensively around the world. I competed in a monthly cupcake baking competition and love creative baking. I hold a Ph.D. in Forensic Psychology and a certificate in Organizational Development.Specialties: French, Spanish, and (learning) Chinese languagesSuperb organizational skillsExceptional writing and editing skillsPolicy analysis and advocacyQuantitative and qualitative research Data analysisProgram evaluationSPSSRGrant writingPolitical advocacyFundraising

I conduct quantitative and qualitative policy research and evaluation in the areas of juvenile justice, human trafficking, and collaborative justice. My work in these areas is used to inform and educate policymakers in the judicial and legislative branches of government, and I present my work at statewide, national, and international conferences and other meetings. I am responsible for formulating research questions, designs, and time frames and determining methodologies, sampling methods, data collection methods, and data analysis methods. I manage the implementation of research projects, including the data collection, data analyses, and the writing of appropriate reports, briefings, and memos about the projects. In addition, I write policy briefings, reports, and tool kits, as well as design and conduct training and educational sessions, on specific topics of interest of the California courts and its stakeholders in the juvenile and criminal justice arena, particularly in the areas of human trafficking and smuggling. I also perform technical assistance and consulting services in local courts and work with third parties (consultants, contractors, etc.) to assist local courts.
