About Amy Wells

I am the Senior Communications & Membership Manager at the National Survivor User Network (NSUN), a charity and membership organisation of user-led community groups and individuals with lived experience of mental ill-health, distress and trauma.I provide strategic leadership across communications and membership at NSUN. I oversee the development and delivery of our communications strategy and lead on comms across the spectrum of disciplines, including social media, website, publications, brand, design, media, and events. I also manage some of NSUN’s membership support projects, such as member-led research. My team works closely with our policy and capacity-building functions, working across areas such as campaigns/influencing and grant-making. As a member of senior management in a small charity, I contribute to the development of our long term strategy and provide the CEO with support across all operational areas, including our policies, procedures, and systems.I am also a trustee of the user-led charity Self-injury Support and a previous member of the Advisory Committee at Student Minds. I am currently a Research Assistant on a SMaRteN-funded project "Academic (un)belonging and the neoliberal university".In 2019-20 I completed a term as the elected Welfare Officer on Leeds University Union’s student executive after graduating with a First Class Honours degree in BSc Zoology (IND) from the University of Leeds. Throughout my degree I worked and volunteered in various roles in student support and educational engagement, and completed a year in industry (2017-18) managing a project exploring and improving the postgraduate researcher experience in STEM faculties. I was also awarded a Research Scholarship to undertake a full time summer internship managing a life history assay in the Faculty of Biological Sciences’ ecology labs in 2018.
