CurrentLed cross-divisional efforts to enhance services for community colleges, culminating in creation of a dedicated division and a 60% increase in our local policy subscriber base. Practice in the area of education law, specializing in higher education issues; employment matters; constitutional law; student and instruction issues; P-16 issues, including dual credit; technology in schools; intellectual property; privacy and records matters; and governance and business issues. Advocate for the colleges.• Direct the division, including engaging in personnel management, contracting, budgeting, strategic planning, marketing, relations with state agencies and other entities, and general operations• Provide legal counsel to TASB community college members by phone and through policy review • Track federal and state legislative and regulatory activity impacting community colleges; assist Governmental Relations team in P-16 bill strategy and composing advocacy documents; summarize bills passed by the Texas Legislature for inclusion in a post-legislative summary book; coordinate a biennial post-legislative seminar for the colleges• Integrate statutory and regulatory changes biannually into legal and local policies and associated guidance referenced by Texas community colleges; conducted an initial comprehensive rewrite• Present in-person and online on various legal topics to local, regional, state, and national audiences • Participate in cross-divisional teams on multiple projects, such as the annual model employee handbook update, a website update, and a significant in-house software and web product update• Develop and maintain TASB College eLaw, an online collection of higher education law resources• Create and edit books, articles, and other education law publications, including the Community College Legal Update monthly newsletter
