Travel to stranding sites and identify species and location of stranded animals. Conduct health assessments of live animals to determine if they are injured, sick or in good health. Collect data, including measurements and sex, from dead animals. Provide photos and information about stranded animals to the Rescue Department. Interact with people at stranding sites to answer questions and maintain a perimeter around the animal.

Marine Animal Rescue responds to calls to provide medical treatment for whales, dolphins, porpoises, seals and sea turtles. Volunteers provide support for Rescue staff in all aspects of the program.Responsibilities include cleaning in order to maintain a hospital environment. Additional responsibilities include following standard quarantine protocols, food prep, feeding, restraining animals for treatments and injections, monitoring behavior and health of animals, maintaining records including water quality, daily food intake, swim charts and treatment sheets.

Boston Harbor

Safely transport passengers in a small motor driven water taxi to multiple stops along the Boston Harbor waterfront

Work on various commuter and whale watching vessels. Safely load and unload passengers and assist the captain.

Scituate

Safely transport passengers on a pontoon boat on the North River for historic tours, scientific tours, or charters.

Worked with a team of interns and biologists on salt marsh data collection, building solar powered cameras for salt marsh tide study and macro invertebrate identification along the Jones River Watershed and the North and South Rivers.

Assist the captain on various vessels including a passenger vessel, a stern buoy tender and a landing craft. Assist with science excursions and coastal research, tend to moorings, and safely transport passengers around the Boston harbor islands. Maintain small boats including row boats and Cape Cod Mercury's. Maintenance includes sanding and varnishing, working with fiberglass and shrink wrapping boats for proper winter storage.

Quincy / Boston

Responsibilities on vessel include assisting the captain to safety moor, operate, and maintain company ferries. Assist passengers in loading and offloading safely. Assist in all aspects of vessel operations to support the vessel as directed by the captain.

Work closely with ecologists and biologist on a diadromous fish monitoring project. Responsibilities include general care and maintenance of the video counting system, collection of data on various fyke nets and fish traps, and evaluating the success of the project by quantitatively measuring the number of river herring that pass through the former dam site.
